What is isomers of decane?

Decane (C10H22) is a hydrocarbon with 75 structural isomers. Isomers are molecules with the same molecular formula but different structural arrangements of atoms. Decane has three different types of isomers: positional isomers, chain isomers, and stereoisomers.

Positional Isomers: These isomers differ in the location of the carbon-carbon double bond or triple bond in the chain. Decane has only one double bond and no triple bond, so positional isomers of decane only differ in the location of a side chain, which is attached to the main carbon chain.

Chain Isomers: These isomers have different arrangements of the carbon chain. Decane has a straight chain of ten carbons, but chain isomers are created when the carbon chain branches out in different ways.

Stereoisomers: These isomers have the same molecular formula and the same connecting order for their atoms but differ in the spatial arrangement of their atoms. Decane has no stereo isomers because there is no carbon atom that is attached to four different groups.
